The United States is worldwide known as â€Å"The Great Melting Pot† a country that accepts and respects people no matter their race and origin. But in reality, America has been struggling with racism throughout it’s history. Studies show that about half of Americans believe that racism is still a big problem in our society. But despite this, racism has improved over the years. Contemporary America is a better society in terms of discrimination than it was in the 1960’s. In the 60’s racism was so severe that African Americans had to face racial segregation, white supremacy and unequal opportunities. In â€Å"saved† by Malcom X, Malcom depicts his view on racism in the 60’s as his hatred for white people grows as he learns more about African American History and the horrors that white people have done throughout history. Contemporary America is a better place to live than it was in the 1960’s. The USA has improved a lot since the civil rights movement. In todays society, African Americans are given equal rights as white Americans and racism seems to be fading away as the years pass and our society becomes more and more accepting of diversity.
